What:With China's economy growing by leaps and bounds, there are endless business opportunities in China. The key question, though, is how can businesses expand or start in China to capitalize on these opportunities? What are the factors for successful business operations in China?

At this event, we have three distinguished panelists who will each have their perspective on success factors for businesses in China. The varied background and extensive experience of the panelists in China will provide for a full discussion on all aspects this issue. Discussion topics will include, but are not limited to:

Speaker Biographies

Ron Cai, Partner-in-Charge and Chief Representative of Davis Wright Tremaine's Shanghai, China office, has more than 20 years of legal experience assisting clients in U.S.-China business projects. He focuses on foreign investment in China, regulatory compliance and dispute resolutions in China, and international transactions. Ron also advises clients on a wide range of legal issues, including M&A, employment and labor law, intellectual property, licensing, retail and franchise, real estate and commercial lending. He represents Chinese companies in their business transactions and litigation in the U.S. Ron speaks and writes frequently on U.S.-Chinese business issues.

Mr. Cai's representative clients include: Microsoft, Starbucks Coffee Company, Marriott International, Eaton Corporation, Nike, DuPont, TNT and Bloomberg.

Mr. Cai is the Chair of the Legal Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai. He also speaks and publishes regularly about the issues of doing business in China.

He received his J.D. with honors from Lewis & Clark Law School (1990), his LL.M. from Columbia University School of Law (1987) and LL.B. from Xiamen University School of Law (1984).


Bob Lin is the founder of Multi-Dimensional Venture Partners, an angel venture group from Silicon Valley and Chairman of Zhifu Capital Partners, a private investment fu in Asia. He also co-founded and served as General Partner for Acorn Campus Fund and Acorn Angels between mid-‘90s to late-‘00s, two of the most reputable investment organizations in Asian American community. In addition to having extensive corporate investment expertise with multiple IPOs, he also has more than 20 years of international business start-up, marketing, and management experiences. He is well known for being the first launching investor of Avanti (IPO '95), AltiGen (IPO '97) and LightLogic (Sold to Intel for $400M '01).

Mr. Lin is also the author of four top selling books in Asia: “Find Your Way To Success & Happiness” in 2003 (Top seller of the year); “Creating Value to Differentiate” in 2004 (Honored with the National Level Golden Book Award); as well as “Build Your Career From Where You Are”, best seller in 2005. His 4th book “It is easy to be super happy” became the top seller in late 2007.

Mr. Lin has been active in the community, serving twice as the Chairman of Chinese Association of International Trade (CAIT). He has also been a Board member of Monte Jade Association and Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Lin has a MSEE degree from University of California at Santa Barbara.


Gary Wang is the co-founder and CEO of CareMax Capital, a biotech company focusing on POCT (Point-of-Care Testing) and PONT (Point-of-Needs Testing) solutions. Prior to his current position, he was the president of 3Com APR Operations based in Hangzhou China. In late 2002, Mr. Wang founded a joint venture (H3C) in China between 3Com and Huawei. In 2005, 3Com became the majority owner of H3C and ultimately acquired 100% of H3C in December 2006. Mr. Wang founded Personal Systems Business Unit (PSB) of 3Com Corporation in mid-2000 and under his leadership PSB became one of the fastest growing businesses in 3Com. In 1993, Mr. Wang founded 3Com Mobile Product Division (MPD), a business division focused on mobile communication solutions. MPD became the world largest global provider of mobile information access products. By 1998, MPD reached sales of $1 billion a year.

Mr. Wang served on the board of directors of the Global Monte Jade Association, the Chiao-Tung NC Alumni Association, the Mahabodhi USA Association, and the ITRI USA. Mr. Wang is also a reputable cartoonist with a big number of readers in North America, China and Taiwan.

He holds a masters degree in electrical engineering from Arizona State University and a bachelor degree in telecommunication engineering from Chiao-Tung University, Taiwan. Mr. Wang is also an alumnus of Stanford University through the executive program of Graduate School of Business.

Moderator Biography

Lilly Chung is a Lead Client Service Partner of key strategic Deloitte clients. She is the regional Women's Initiative leader, Semiconductor Affinity Group leader, and an executive member of Deloitte's Chinese Services Group. Ms. Chung started her career in a series of technical roles at TRW, Fairchild Semiconductor and Xerox. Later she joined Xerox’s Strategic Business Office and developed her consulting career with CSC Index, KPMG, and Ernst& Young. Her experience expanded from business process reengineering to ERP implementation and organizational effectiveness.

Lilly has helped major companies such as Acer Computer, Apple, Applied Materials, Cisco, Siemens, Solectron, and Xerox to improve their operational efficiencies. Her work was written up in Fortune Magazine. Ms. Chung currently serves as a Board Member of Monte Jade Association. Ms. Chung holds an MBA from the Harvard University, both B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California, and an M.S. in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management from Stanford University.
